New Project To Decrease Istanbul’s Visual Pollution

The Facade Rehabilitation Urban Designs Application Project has been initiated and approved by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality City Council to create a modern view along Istanbul’s main arterial roads. The project will contribute to the city’s urban aesthetic and put an end to the visual pollution created by many buildings’ facades.

During the meeting held at the Saraçhane Municipality Building, the council discussed the project, which suggests removing signboards that create visual pollution and rehabilitating the facades of the buildings on Istanbul’s main roads. The project was approved with an absolute majority despite the Republican People’s Party’s (CHP) council member’s veto. The Facade Rehabilitation Urban Designs Application Project is planned to be conducted in three phases.

Air-conditioning units, satellite dishes and other elements that create visual pollution on 117 buildings located between Zincirlikuyu and Trump Towers will be removed during the first phase. Moreover, the facade of the buildings will be painted in accordance with their surroundings. While the second phase will include alterations to the facades of the buildings located on the D-100 main road, the rehabilitation of the buildings located between the Bosphorus Bridge and the Sabiha Gökçen Airport Intersection will be conducted as the project’s third phase.
